Description

One of a series of pictures I wanted to do depicting the celestial phenomena occurring around the time of Christ. A little something for Easter, since I kinda missed Christmas.

*I include specific dates and times because you can see these events with Starry Night, a computer program even used by NASA, that accurately shows what the skies looked like from anywhere at anytime in history.

Factoid: Did you know that there are 2 kinds of stars in the night sky? A.) Your standard stars that take the same straight (or curved, rather) path in the night sky, and B.) stars that stop, move backwards, then go forwards again. Those are Planets.

Retrograde motion, that appearance of them going backwards, has to do with the fact that both we and the other planets are orbiting the sun, and just as a car you pass on the freeway appears to move backwards, so do the planets. In this picture, Jupiter, obviously, wouldn't look like a planet with the unaided eye, I just did that to emphasis the fact that its a planet, not just an ordinary star. Those dotted lines are the path it would have taken.

Really nice rendition. I love the detail of both the constellation and Jupiter. Kinda crazy that the star of Bethlehem is a well-known planet that we can go outside and see any given night. Fitting, though. Very fitting. Amazing how God wrote a poem into the cosmos.
