Description
And just when you thought I was on an ungulate binge (my last 4 deviations have been hooved critters).
I worked on this line art Christmas afternoon at my grandmother-in-laws house.
The phrase "Tora To Tori", I believe means "Tiger with Bird" in Japanese, though, neither I nor my husband are sure that it's grammatically correct. You would have to ask a native speaker.
I'm not the kind of artist who wants to have random Kanji on my art to increase views or anything. The whole image of a tiger and a bird was inspired by the fact that the words for the two animals sounded similar.
The bird here is a male Count Raggi's Bird of Paradise, native to Papua New Guinea, not Japan. But then again, was there ever a native population of tigers in Japan?
Any biologists/ecologists know the answer to that?
No real meaning to this pic besides that.

Heh, I thought the bird was a golden pheasant at first! This is lovely, the belly floof and paws are so very tigery
I believe the only Tigers that have been in Japan were brought there. ^__^ They tend to need too much space to hunt to get along well with such limited space!
